A recent news report read: Diabetes is this country’s most common chronic illness, with an estimated 4,000 Americans diagnosed every day. It threatens our public health system, which already spends $132 billion a year on diabetic patients, and it will impose far greater costs until it is conquered.

Another news report read: The aging of the baby boomer generation, combined with increased obesity and more sedentary lifestyles in the general population, is creating a diabetes explosion. If current trends continue, the estimated number of diabetes cases in America is expected to grow from the current 18.2 million to more than 30 million by the year 2030. The implications of our health care system are truly frightening, with a significant impact on health costs and public policy.

Diabetes, in particular type 2 diabetes, is a disease that very likely touches everyone one way or another. Chances are that you, a friend or a family member suffers from it. It has become a very serious problem.

Type 2 diabetes used to be called “adult-onset diabetes” because it usually develops late in life, particularly as people approach their 50s and 60s. Now, however, people in their 30s and 20s and even, unbelievably, children as young as 3 or 4 are developing the disease, according to a report from the University of California, San Diego. This is a great concern since these kids could develop complications from diabetes at a very early age. In other words, if we’re diagnosing kids in the 3 to 10-year-old range with diabetes, then by 30 or 40 they are going to be facing blindness, possible limb problems, circulatory problems and kidney disease. These complications usually don’t develop in people with diabetes until the age of 60 to 70. It’s astounding!

Health experts agree with the news reports – type 2 diabetes is on the rise and, unfortunately, is the result of poor diet, sedentary lifestyle and inadequate intake of a variety of nutrients – and many research studies also support this idea. In fact, a study in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that dietary improvements and regular physical activity can reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes by 58 percent!

We have the knowledge we need to prevent and control type 2 diabetes; but unfortunately, many people are not willing to make the necessary changes in their lives to control this dreadful disease. Take this opportunity now to take action to fight this disease.

Below you’ll find links to my articles and television programs. It is my hope that you will read all the information carefully, and that you will apply it to your own health. Also, pray about each topic and discuss any concerns with your doctor. Finally, be sure to share this information with your loved ones so that they, too, can discover their Pathway to Healing.
