Basic Health, Part 1

Dr. Cherry begins teaching on the topic of basic nutrient support and the natural derivatives from the plant kingdom that are available in the form of supplements to protect our health. Dr. Cherry states that it is extremely important to maintain a strong, healthy immune system. One reason a healthy immune system is important is to protect against the antibiotic resistant breed of staphylococcal bacteria.

Due to the common use of fertilizers and pesticides our food sources do not contain the nutrients they once did. Modern technology provides methods of extracting specific ingredients that can be placed in the form of supplements from ingredients found throughout the world. Scientists are continually researching natural ingredients to be used as supplements and testing them for purity. Taking supplements does not provide an excuse to routinely consume an unhealthy diet but it is very difficult to get everything the body needs to maintain good health from diet alone.  It is no longer enough to just take “vitamins” as they are only one component of the basic nutritional needs. A good supplement will contain minerals; magnesium helps dilate the blood vessels.  Ingredients that aid digestion and absorption are also crucial aspects of a good nutritional supplement. With age the body’s ability to absorb nutrients decreases, so essentially a supplement needs to contain a substance that helps the body absorb the supplement.  It is important to keep a constant level in the body of Omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA, as they decrease inflammation that is linked to heart attacks, strokes, vascular problems, and infection.  Green tea extract is another ingredient a good supplement will contain. It acts to slightly boost the metabolism and as a disease preventive and anti-cancer agent.

Dr. Cherry states the current medical literature routinely lists exercise, nutrition, and supplements as essential ingredients for good health. He cited an article from the Journal of the American Medical Association regarding the outcome of studies conducted on the use of nutritional supplements. The article stated, “Most people do not consume an optimal amount of vitamins by diet alone. Pending strong evidence of effectiveness from trials it appears prudent for all adults to take supplements.”

Dr Cherry states the health laws from Leviticus 11 are as applicable for our modern day as they were when they were written. Jesus taught we would face pestilences, malignant and contagious diseases. It is important to use our endeavors to protect our health.
